Delhi’s scorching heat has now made way for some welcome showers in Hyderabad, but that might be the only surprise in store for this dead-rubber clash. A flat, batting-friendly pitch is expected again, similar to what was seen in Delhi, where the gap between the two teams only widened. That trend could very well continue in Hyderabad, providing little relief for Bangladesh.
With the series already wrapped up, India sees this final T20I as a chance to experiment with their bench strength. However, don’t mistake this for a lack of intensity. Gautam Gambhir’s well-known competitive nature, combined with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate’s recent comments, makes it clear that India is fully focused on achieving a 5-0 series sweep.
“Ideally, yes, we want to finish with a win. The messaging from Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] is about the importance of every game when playing for your country, and putting yourself under pressure each time. So, there’s absolutely no talk about easing up. We want to win and complete the 5-0 series,” Ryan emphasized.

“It’s a bit like when we arrived in Delhi the other day; you don’t want to read too much into the data. We feel that losing those first three wickets was probably due to being a bit too aggressive. The wicket in Delhi was slightly sticky. We’ll definitely take a close look at this wicket. While we’re aware of the high-scoring nature of this pitch during the IPL, it’s important to remember that we’re now five months removed from the tournament, so conditions could be different,” said Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach.
While India may have little to gain in terms of stakes, Bangladesh has much to lose. Their best performance came on the opening day of the first Test in Chennai, where their pacers rattled India’s top order in helpful conditions. Since then, they’ve struggled to close out games. Finishing this tour with a victory is crucial for Bangladesh, especially as veteran Mahmudullah is set to bid farewell to the format. Ending on a high note would be a fitting tribute to his contributions.
“We have a very different perspective on things. We played against the best team in the world—India. If we only measure the outcome, many countries have had tough tours in India. What we need to focus on is the learning process and preparing for the future, with the Champions Trophy and T20s coming up. Additionally, we must acknowledge the end of an era for some of Bangladesh’s legendary players. So, we view this tour through a different lens,” said Nic Pothas, Bangladesh’s assistant coach.
